🌸 My Ongoing USMLE Step-2 CK Prep Journey

When I walked out of my Step-1 exam, I remember being in a blur — confused, exhausted, and not even sure if it was really over. That moment, standing outside the exam center with my husband quietly waiting, reminded me that these exams test not just knowledge, but also patience, emotions, and belief in yourself.

Now, I’m in the middle of preparing for USMLE Step-2 CK, and it feels like a new chapter — just as intense, but in a different way.

✨ How I’m Preparing for Step-2 CK

Unlike Step-1, Step-2 CK is less about recalling facts and more about making decisions for patients. That shift makes it both exciting and challenging.

I’ve set my exam goal: December 2025. It feels far, but I know the journey will demand consistency. For me, that means a lengthy prep timeline, because I want to build both knowledge and exam stamina at a steady pace rather than rushing.

Right now, I’m focusing on UWorld QBank daily, mixing in OnlineMedEd videos, and planning to start NBME/UWSA practice exams in a few months.

⏳ A Lengthy Timeline (and Why It Works for Me)

Some people finish Step-2 CK prep in 2–3 months, but I knew I needed more time. I’m aiming for 4–5 months of consistent study before December.

This gives me space to:

  • Cover the entire UWorld QBank slowly and thoroughly

  • Take practice exams without panic

  • Revisit weak areas instead of cramming

I’ve learned not to measure my journey against others — this is the pace that keeps me balanced.

👩‍👧 More Hours Away from My Kid

One of the hardest parts of this prep is the time I spend away from my child. Step-2 demands longer study blocks compared to Step-1. There are days when I feel guilty closing the door and diving into cases while my child plays outside.

But I remind myself: this sacrifice is temporary. I’m building something for our future. And when I do take breaks, I try to be fully present with my family, even if it’s just for an hour.

🔄 Adjusting My Schedule

Unlike Step-1, where I studied in shorter bursts, Step-2 prep means longer, structured hours:

  • 1–2 UWorld blocks daily (with detailed review)

  • OnlineMedEd or YouTube for tricky subjects

  • Notes from every mistake

  • Breaks built around school runs and family routines

It’s not a perfect schedule, but I adjust daily. Some days are kid-focused, some are study-heavy. Flexibility is my survival tool.

📖 Core Resources I’m Using

  • UWorld Step-2 CK QBank → my main resource

  • OnlineMedEd videos → for OB/GYN, Psych, and IM

  • First Aid Step-2 CK → quick reference

  • NBME & UWSA practice exams → coming up later in prep

  • YouTube explainers → when I get stuck

  • WhatsApp Meta AI → my quick question generator & study buddy

🤝 My Support System

If there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that support matters as much as resources.

  • My partner has been my steady encourager — covering responsibilities at home, listening to my rambling UWorld explanations, and reminding me that I’m more than my score.

  • My family has stepped in countless times, whether it’s helping with childcare, lightening household work, or simply motivating me when I feel drained.

Having both partner and family in my corner makes this long road feel lighter.

🏁 Where I Am Today

I’m still in the middle of prep, slowly building my confidence. Some days I feel strong, other days I feel far from ready. But with December 2025 as my goal, I know I have time — as long as I keep showing up.

To every mom or IMG preparing for Step-2 CK: your journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It’s okay if it takes longer. It’s okay if you adjust your schedule daily. What matters is persistence, not perfection. 🌸
